The Journey Begins
As I sit down to write my first blog post, I’m filled with excitement and anticipation about the content I’m eager to share with you. I’ve created this space to offer insights and recommendations I’ve gathered as a travel agent, and to document my own travel experiences.
A common myth is that travel agents get flights and accommodation at a huge discount. While that might have been true before the pandemic, it’s rarely the case today. If you’re entering the travel industry just for discounts, you’re likely to be disappointed. The real reason many travel agents travel frequently is their passion for it. Personally, I believe there’s nothing better to spend money on.
Traveling to new destinations offers insight into how other cultures live. It’s about stepping out of your comfort zone, learning history, and trying new foods! This thrill drives me in the world of travel. Building relationships with my customers and giving them the chance to explore - knowing everything is taken care of - is what makes me excited to arrive at work (that and, of course, my pay).
My passion for travel ignited when I worked as a check-in agent at my hometown airport. It was the first job where I truly enjoyed gaining knowledge. My inspiration to become a travel agent came from my dad, who has built a successful career in the industry. His dedication and numerous awards serve as a constant source of motivation.
Starting out as a travel agent, I was a small fish in a big pond. There were many systems and suppliers to learn, and I lacked experience in international travel. But through hard work and self-guided learning, I became confident enough to call myself a travel expert - not in every destination, but certainly more knowledgeable than most. This blog aims to share what I’ve learned and help you plan your ideal holiday.
